We just had the coldest Memorial Day weekend that I can remember. I hope I'm wrong, but given that shootings are often correlated with hot weather, I wouldn't be surprised if this trend levels off.

Great write-up. +To be fair, as a Mayor, Johnson is not alone in taking credit for the upswing while forgetting that means he has to own it on the other side.

The chart on non-fatal shooting case status shows a large uptick in the number of open cases last year compared to 2023 after being flat for several years. Do you know what is behind that?

Don't know for sure, but I'd imagine that that's because detectives are still trying to solve cases from the back half of 2024 in the first half of 2025. Some of those open cases may result in arrests, but most will probably end up suspended just as they were in prior years.
